Chapter 155 Ling Huanan Sets Off
Chapter 155 Ling Huanan Sets Off
The next day.
Ling Huanan, accompanied by Xue Wen and his personal guards, set off back to Shuomen Pass. Feng Han sent his crown princess, Feng Zhao, to see them off.
"Father, we can't bear to part with you..."
"As your father, I can't bear to part with you..."
Lin Shu's husbands and Xue Wen took turns pouring out their hearts to each other!
Looking around, Xue Wen's eyes were swollen, clearly from crying all night. Now, looking at his daughter and son-in-law, he couldn't bear to part with them and tears streamed down his face...
Ling Huanan helplessly wiped away her tears while coldly instructing Lin Shu, and as before, left half of his personal guards to her.
After a long time, they had said almost everything before parting. Ling Huanan saw that it was getting late. If they were delayed, they would not be able to reach the post station that night and would have to spend the night in the wilderness. She herself was fine, but she had Awen with her. How could she let Awen suffer?
Ling Huanan then interrupted the incessant chatter of Xue Wen: "Alright! Wen, it's time for us to set off!"
Xue Wen glanced at Ling Huanan and suggested somewhat guiltily, "Shu'er has grown up so much, and I've never left her side. How about I don't go this time, and wait until you come back next time, then I'll..." and go with her.
Seeing Ling Huanan's increasingly gloomy expression, Xue Wen's voice grew softer and softer until it disappeared completely.
"Get in the carriage." Ling Huanan spat out the two words fiercely, and then, without giving them time to say goodbye, he pulled Xue Wen and got into the carriage without looking back.
The carriage began to move forward, swaying and rocking, and Xue Wen ignored Ling Huanan the whole way.
Ling Huanan was able to maintain a calm and composed expression at first, until she was kicked out of her room when she was resting at the inn that evening...
They ran right into the guards on night duty. The guards were stunned and stood there, wondering if the prince would be so angry that he would kill them!
Ling Huanan glared fiercely at the group, sending chills down their spines.
"Hey! Seventh Brother, why can't I see anything all of a sudden?"
"Me too! I can't see anything at all, how am I supposed to keep watch at night!"
"Sigh! I guess the darkness is just too thick tonight..."
"..."
Several guards pretended to slip past Ling Huanan quickly.
The deputy general, who had just returned from relieving himself, happened to brush past him and looked at the bright full moon in the sky with some doubt. Was the night still so dark?
Then, seeing Ling Huanan standing at the door, he asked, "Your Highness, it's so late, why aren't you in your room to rest? What are you doing standing outside?"
"Hmph!" Ling Huanan glanced at her coldly, letting out a cold snort with a hint of embarrassment and annoyance.
The lieutenant glanced at Ling Huanan's thin nightgown, then at the closed door behind him, and recalling the prince's fierce roar at his lord before their departure earlier that day, he understood:
"But have you and Your Highness had a falling out?"
Upon hearing this, Ling Huanan cast a surprised glance at him. No wonder he could become a deputy general! He quickly understood the situation.
Seeing Ling Huanan's gaze, the lieutenant felt a little smug: "Your Highness, this man needs to be coaxed."
"How do you know I didn't try to coax him?" Ling Huanan's expression was complicated. She had tried to coax him earlier, but it didn't work.
The lieutenant was speechless. "Your face has been even more somber than theirs all day. Is this what you call 'coaxing'?" But she dared not say this aloud, and could only adopt a pained, earnest tone, saying:
"Alas! Your Highness, there is a skill to coaxing a man. It's not just about coaxing him when he's angry; it's also necessary on ordinary days."
Putting everything else aside, just look at your daughter, Lady Lin. She can keep so many husbands in line. She's aloof and distant outside, but gentle and considerate at home. She's a model woman!
Unlike those people in the capital, who seem so proper on ordinary days, but get angry at the drop of a hat, and when they do get angry they love to turn stern and yell..."
The lieutenant grew more and more enthusiastic as he spoke, but only when he felt a chill run through his body did he realize what was happening. He mechanically turned to look at Ling Huanan and explained:
"Your Highness, please let me explain. I wasn't referring to you..."
She swore she wasn't talking about the prince; most of the nobles in the capital were like that—serious on the surface, but capricious and unpredictable behind the scenes!
But little did she know that her explanation only made things worse, making it seem like she was trying to cover something up!
"It seems my deputy is quite adept at seducing men!" Under the moonlight, Ling Huanan suddenly laughed, revealing a set of gleaming white teeth, which was extremely frightening, but he quickly concealed it.
"Huh?" The lieutenant looked bewildered.
"Ouch!" Before she could react, she was kicked hard in the buttocks and fell face-first to the ground.
"Hmph! Do I need an old bachelor like you to teach me?"
After saying that, Ling Huanan turned around and walked towards the side room diagonally behind him, opening and closing the door with fluid movements!
"Your Highness, that's my room..." The lieutenant, clutching his backside, ran to the door and said cautiously.
However, there was no sound from inside the room, and Ling Huanan pretended not to hear it.
The deputy general had no choice but to pitifully squeeze into the large communal sleeping area of the other guards, but the various smells inside made it impossible for her to sleep, so she had to return.
To his surprise, upon arrival, he found bedding thrown out of the doorway of his room.
She certainly wouldn't be so narcissistic as to think that Ling Huanan couldn't bear to see her freezing; the only explanation was that the prince disliked that she had covered herself up before relieving herself!
The lieutenant (on the verge of tears): ...This is too much! My mouth is usually so clever, how could I have caused such a disaster!
Meanwhile, Ling Huanan lay on the bed with his arm as a pillow, unable to sleep!
Although she didn't say it aloud, she felt that the deputy general's words made some sense. That brat Lin Shu did have some tricks up her sleeve when it came to coaxing her husband!
So, the next day, Ling Huanan wrote to Lin Shu seeking advice!
A few days later, Lin Shu looked at the letter in front of her, her temples twitching. How could this person be acting like they'd lost their mind! So she ignored it and didn't reply. But not long after, another letter arrived!
Lin Shu stared at the two big words 'useless' on the letter and was utterly speechless!
But that's a story for another time...
……
Back to the day after Ling Huanan left...
Watching the grand procession depart, Feng Zhao invited Lin Shu and her group to have a meal at Bao Fang Zhai.
When the group arrived at Baofangzhai, they saw many people gathered at the entrance of Qizhenge next door. Qizhenge was Feng Zhao's private property, so she paused and said to Lin Shu, "A-Shu, please wait a moment."
She headed in that direction, but Lin Shu, who didn't like crowds, waited for her as instructed.
Feng Zhao had only been gone a short while when the surrounding crowd dispersed with some regret, though they still looked back with great interest.
Lin Shu and the others followed the gazes of the crowd and saw a woman take two steps toward Feng Zhao before rubbing her aching ears and saying, "I want to break off the engagement, you violent man!"
The burly man opposite her chuckled, rolled up his sleeves, and said, "Oh? Is that so?"
"Yes..." The woman wanted to project an imposing aura, but it all vanished when she met the other person's eyes. She covered her ears and took a step back: "Actually... it's not necessary to back down!"
"Lin Shu, Lin Shu, tell me quickly, isn't that my third imperial sister?"
The conversation between the two was both hilarious and absurd. Little Fatty Feng Yu stared at the two of them in disbelief, unable to believe that his arrogant and domineering third sister could be so obedient!
