Chapter 228 A Moment of Life and Death and an Unknown Turning Point
The massive rock, carrying immense force, crashed down on the group like a black meteor. A fierce wind howled within the black hole, sand and stones flew, and the darkness itself seemed to grow even more menacing under the force of this destruction. Huanmo held Ling'er tightly behind him, a flicker of despair crossing his mind, but his resolve to protect his companions only strengthened. "Even if it costs me my life, I can't let anyone get hurt!" he gritted his teeth, his muscles tense, bracing himself for the potentially fatal blow.
The mysterious man, Wanru, and the woman in white watched the approaching boulder, a resolute glint in their eyes. They knew there was nowhere to hide; they could only grit their teeth and endure. Wanru gripped her weapon tightly, knowing it might be useless against the boulder, yet she refused to give up the final resistance. The woman in white gently stroked her zither, attempting to gather her last strength through music in this life-or-death moment, hoping to buy everyone a chance to survive.
Just as the boulder was about to crash down on the group, a strange light shot out from a crack in the stone wall. The light struck the boulder precisely, unleashing a powerful force that stopped it mid-air. The boulder trembled violently under the impact of the light, countless cracks appeared on its surface, and fragments of rock rained down.
Huanmo and the others were stunned by this sudden turn of events, staring at the scene before them in disbelief. "What... what's going on?" Ling'er exclaimed, her mouth agape in surprise, her eyes filled with both lingering fear and delight at this unexpected turn of events.
Huanmo was overjoyed, but he quickly calmed down. "No time to think, this might be our only chance, let's get into the crevice!" he shouted, grabbing Ling'er's hand and rushing towards the crevice in the stone wall. The mysterious man, Wanru, and the woman in white also reacted quickly and followed closely behind them.
After rushing into the crevice, the group found themselves in a narrow passage. Soft light shimmered on either side of the passage, seemingly guiding them forward. The air inside was fresh and cool, a stark contrast to the oppressive darkness of the black hole. Huanmo remained vigilant; he knew that although they had temporarily escaped the threat of the boulder, the danger was far from over.
"Everyone be careful, we don't know what other dangers are around here," Huanmo said in a low voice, cautiously exploring forward. The others followed closely behind him, taking each step with extreme care.
After walking along the passage for a while, a spacious cave appeared ahead. In the center of the cave was a huge stone platform, on which sat an ancient book that emitted light. The cover of the book was covered with mysterious runes, which shimmered with an eerie light, as if telling an ancient story.
"What is this?" Wanru asked softly, her eyes filled with curiosity and wariness. The mysterious man frowned slightly, carefully observing the surrounding environment, and said, "There doesn't seem to be any obvious danger here, but we still can't let our guard down."
Huanmo slowly approached the stone platform. He could sense a powerful and mysterious force contained within the ancient book. The moment his hand touched the book, a torrent of information flooded into his mind. He saw many blurry images: ancient runic traditions, mysterious methods of cultivating power, and information about the origins of the black hole and the shadowy figure.
“I think I know something.” Huanmo took a deep breath, sorted out the information in his mind, and slowly said, “This ancient book records that this black hole is the remnant of a great battle in ancient times, and the shadow is the condensation of the residual consciousness of the dark power at that time. And the runes we saw before are actually the key to sealing the shadow.”
Everyone looked surprised upon hearing this. "What should we do now?" Ling'er asked, her eyes filled with anticipation. Huanmo frowned slightly and continued, "The ancient texts also mention that to completely eliminate the shadow and prevent it from reviving, we need to use the power here to complete an ancient ritual. But this ritual will require each of us to pay a huge price."
Silence fell over everyone, each pondering Huanmo's words. They knew it was a difficult choice. On one hand, they had barely escaped the collapse of the black hole and rid themselves of the direct threat of the shadow; on the other hand, if the shadow wasn't completely eliminated, it could reappear at any time, bringing even greater disaster to the world.
“I do.” Huanmo broke the silence first, his eyes firm and resolute. “We’ve come this far, we’ve been through so much, we can’t let all our previous efforts go to waste, and we can’t let the shadows continue to harm the world.”
Wanru and the woman in white exchanged a glance, seeing the same determination in each other's eyes. "We are willing too," they said in unison. The mysterious man nodded slightly; although his injuries had not yet fully healed, his eyes revealed an undeniable firmness. "To completely eliminate this hidden danger, I also agree."
Ling'er looked at everyone, feeling a surge of emotion. "Brother Huanmo, I'll be with you too." She held Huanmo's hand tightly, her eyes filled with trust.
Just as everyone was preparing to perform the ritual according to the ancient texts, a violent tremor suddenly came from outside the cave. A powerful dark force surged from the entrance of the passage, and the light on both sides of the passage flickered erratically under the impact of this dark force, as if it might be extinguished at any moment.
"Not good! The shadowy figure seems to have sensed our intentions; it's making a final struggle!" Huanmo was startled. He knew they didn't have much time left. The group quickly adjusted their stance, preparing to meet the shadowy figure's final attack, while also speeding up the preparations for the ritual.
However, this dark force was far more powerful than they had imagined. The darkness surged in like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing the entire cave. Huanmo and the others fought desperately in the darkness, channeling their spiritual energy in an attempt to carve out a space within it. But the dark force relentlessly pressed in, rapidly depleting their spiritual energy, making their resistance increasingly difficult.
In this life-or-death moment, can they successfully withstand the shadowy attack and complete the ritual? What unexpected crises will the shadow's final struggle bring? Everything remains uncertain, and the atmosphere inside the cave is so tense it feels like it could explode at any moment…
