Chapter 305 Empty City
Chapter 305 Empty City
"What a mess this place is!" Sean complained.
Although they had heard before that Ozler was a desolate place, this was too desolate. They walked for a whole day, watching the sun turn from golden yellow to orange-red, and they didn't see a single person along the way. The further they walked, the more uneasy they felt, as if they had accidentally entered another uninhabited world.
"No wonder Catherine didn't recommend us to come." Lilith was also a little tired. There was really nothing to explore here.
"But this is a field, it's just covered by snow." Jaina, a farming expert, said as she looked at the neatly tidied ridges and drainage ditches nearby. "There should be a village or town nearby."
"Then why haven't we arrived yet?" Lulu squatted down, not wanting to walk anymore. "Once we find the town, can we hire a carriage?"
"Two, no, four, I'm willing to pay for all of them." Hannah said weakly.
"I don't know how far we are from the town, and I can't find anyone to ask..." Bobby said distressedly. They were clearly walking on the main road, but there were no people, not even a bird passing by.
"Hannah, are you serious about paying the full amount?" Lucas, who was walking in the front, shouted back.
Bobby was stunned, ran forward happily, and then cheered.
In the dim sunset, they finally saw a dense group of buildings in the distance, and the walls that surrounded them tightly. They finally saw a human gathering place!
"Great! I can sleep in a bed tonight and don't have to squeeze with Bobby!" Sean cheered. His legs, which felt like they were filled with lead, suddenly burst with energy. He caught up with Ian and Lucas who were walking in the front and ran towards the settlement.
After the sun completely disappeared below the horizon, they finally arrived at the black city gate, but...
"It's closed..." Lilith said, looking up at the tightly closed door.
"Is there a curfew here? Isn't it too early? Are they hiding in there and celebrating the holiday secretly?" Sean lay on the door and listened inside.
"Stupid Sean." Lucas rolled his eyes. "This is a God-forsaken place, where even the Church of Light refuses to stay. Do you think the people here will celebrate Hanukkah? Those believers have long since fled with the church."
"Ah, I forgot about that..." Sean scratched his head. "How about we let that big guy fly us in? But that might be a little impolite..."
"Did you just forget this?" Lulu placed her hand on the black door, activating her mental power, and a silver-white light emerged on it.
"Is this... a magic lock?" Sean asked blankly.
"There's no bolt behind the door. It's just sealed with magic, and this magic lock..." Lulu tilted her head, "It's so simple--"
As she spoke, the characters in the circular mark on the door kept rotating. After a few breaths, they stopped, and the silver-white light turned into green, representing passage.
"Creaky--" the heavy door opened without wind, silently welcoming the guests coming from afar. Inside the gate, the various buildings behind the shadows of the trees were all dark, without any light coming out of any of the houses.
"Gudong." Sean swallowed subconsciously, "Can I tell the truth?"
"Stop talking like a jinx," Lilith quickly stopped him.
"Then I won't say anything." Sean swallowed back the words that were about to come out of his mouth. Why did this place look so much like the haunted empty city that Lilith had described? He glanced at Hannah behind him - forget it, he didn't dare to ask, if he didn't know, then there was no such thing.
The group lit up the lighting magic and torches and walked towards the gate.
This place is not big, it looks like the size of a village. Not only are there few houses, but there are also large tracts of open space on both sides of the wide road. After walking to the nearest building, Lilith followed Ian and looked into the closed windows.
It was filled with all kinds of utensils, like...
"They are all farm tools." Jaina concluded after taking a look. She said that those fields outside were indeed cultivated by people!
Could those be Catherine and her experimental fields? Lilith tilted her head and thought, but where did the farmers go? Did they eat all the harvested food? Where were the people in this village usually?
Lilith followed Ian's torch and walked forward with a lot of doubts.
"This looks like a place where people live, right?" Away from some warehouses ahead, some residential-like buildings began to appear. There was also a well covered with thick stone slabs at the intersection. The dust on the surface indicated that no one had used the well for a long time.
It was so weird, as if the entire village had evacuated overnight.
"I'm telling you, I'm really a little scared now." Sean looked at the quiet street and stood next to his good brother, "How about we squeeze in tonight--"
"Don't even think about it." Bobby smiled cruelly. He just disdained him, but now he's scared and he remembers his brother again?
"Hey, Lilith!" Lucas called them back from the end of the team. "What do you think this is?"
"What?" Lilith walked over in confusion and looked at the ground Lucas pointed at. They were only looking at the buildings on both sides of the road, but they didn't notice that there was an uneven ground in an open space, and it was also carved with complicated magic patterns. Lilith suddenly realized -
"It's a teleportation array!"
