Chapter 184: A Series of Unlucky Events
"Pfft." Someone chuckled softly at that moment.
Gu Siming originally wanted to curse Song Miqiu in public, but when she heard this voice, she helped the maid up from the ground.
Seeing the maid regain her footing, Gu Siming took a step back in disgust. She turned her head in the direction of the sound and saw a face that was all too familiar.
In that instant, Gu Siming's face turned bright red. She was flustered and felt as if she had lost all face in this moment.
She never expected that her entire humiliating ordeal would be witnessed by someone she had always disliked.
Gu Siming lowered her head in shame. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the maid frowning as she cleaned the dust off her clothes, and Gu Siming felt annoyed.
She snapped at the maid, "Why are you still sweeping the dust! It's all because of you that I've lost face in front of so many people!"
The thought of being seen in such a shameful state by someone she disliked made Gu Siming's eyes gradually redden. She sniffed, glared angrily at Song Miqiu, and then turned to glare at the person hiding in the crowd watching her make a fool of herself.
"And you! What are you looking at! What's so interesting about my jokes?!"
"What's wrong with me?" The man frowned and looked Gu Siming up and down, finding her words quite amusing. "You willingly made a fool of yourself here. I was just passing by and came to see what was going on when I saw you making a fool of yourself. I didn't expect you to get bitten by a dog."
The people standing next to that man glanced at him and quickly moved to the side, afraid of being caught in the crossfire.
However, judging from the current situation, the young lady of the Marquis of Wu's mansion is definitely no match for these two.
What surprised them even more was that the old woman, whose identity they did not know, was so healthy and quick to retaliate against provocations.
If it had been me who was about to be slapped by the maid, I probably would have been slapped hard, but I wouldn't have dared to fight back because the other person was a young lady from the Marquis of Wu's mansion.
Gu Siming turned and strode away. When she turned back and saw the maid still standing there, wanting to confront Song Miqiu, Gu Siming felt her face burning.
She scolded the maid's retreating figure, "Is it that you can't be summoned by my words?!"
The maid exclaimed in surprise. Seeing Gu Siming about to leave, she turned back and sternly threatened Song Miqiu, "You just wait! You better not let me see you again. If I do, you'll be in big trouble!"
Song Miqiu nodded, shrugged, and laughed in response, "Nothing else. I just wanted to see how you were going to make sure I didn't have any fruit to eat. After all, you can't buy up all the fruit in the capital, can you?"
Upon hearing this, everyone burst into laughter. The maid dared not stay any longer to confront Song Miqiu, lest she lose all face.
She watched Gu Siming's departing figure, and the maidservant quickly followed.
After everyone left, Song Miqiu rolled her eyes, feeling extremely unlucky. She took out a handkerchief from her clothes and wiped the silver needles, which were stained with the girl's blood, making her feel very unlucky.
Then, Song Miqiu threw the handkerchief away.
She walked out with a disgusted look on her face. She never expected that she would encounter so many unpleasant things just because she came out to pick out a gift for Yu Huailin.
“What bad luck…” Song Miqiu pouted, lowered her head and muttered a few words.
She truly didn't expect to be so unlucky, to encounter such an exasperating master and servant so early in the morning, and even more so, she never imagined that she would run into such bad luck just by going out for a short while.
Feeling a bit hungry, Song Miqiu rubbed her stomach and noticed a stall selling steamed buns not far away. Her eyes lit up instantly, and she strode over. "Boss, how much is a steamed bun?"
"Hey, it only costs three coins."
Song Miqiu frowned slightly, about to say it was a bit expensive, but then, remembering that meat prices had risen quite a bit recently, she took out three coins and placed them in the stall owner's hand.
The steaming hot buns were handed to Song Miqiu, who complained that the buns were too hot and pushed her fingertips together in an attempt to prevent them from getting burned.
She strode towards home, but Song Miqiu hadn't gone far when she noticed a group of people's stomachs just a few steps away.
A little curious, Song Miqiu stuffed the bun into a piece of greaseproof paper, wrapped it up carefully, and tucked it into her clothes to avoid getting a bundle of dust on it while watching the commotion.
She strode over, stood on tiptoe outside the crowd, and craned her neck to try and see the people inside, but the people in front of her were too tall for her to see at all.
Perhaps her movements were a bit too loud, for the man standing in front of her sensed the commotion behind him. He turned around, saw the old woman, and, amused, asked, "What are you doing here...?"
Song Miqiu glanced at the other person awkwardly, then, thinking of her appearance, she coughed lightly and pointed inside, "What happened in here? Why are you all gathered here?"
"So that's why you've been jumping around here all this time?" the man joked.
These words made Song Miqiu feel a little uncomfortable. She frowned slightly, but the other party did not notice Song Miqiu's displeasure. He made a few teasing remarks in a low voice before telling Song Miqiu about the situation inside.
"Someone just bumped their leg and is sitting on the ground, too scared to move." The man glanced back inside and chuckled, "It was a woman."
Song Miqiu bit her lower lip lightly, too lazy to waste any more words with the other party.
She immediately realized that the person in front of her was extremely disrespectful, and she had nothing to talk to him about.
Song Miqiu was about to turn around and go to another place to check the situation inside, since everyone was just standing aside, and judging from what the man said, he must be a woman.
Recently, there have been many cases of women staging accidents to extort money, and the police are afraid that if they help, the women will grab their hands tightly.
"Hey, where are you going? Aren't you going to watch the show?" the man called out.
Those standing around the man were drawn to what he was saying, and several women rolled their eyes in disgust upon hearing it.
They wanted to save lives, but dared not seek medical help easily.
Song Miqiu ignored her and went around to a spot with a low vantage point. She gently patted the woman's shoulder and asked softly, "May I go in and take a look?"
The woman turned her head and saw that it was an older woman. She nodded gently, turned her body to the side, and put Song Miqiu inside.
Perhaps the people around the woman had all come out with her today.
They were not dissatisfied with the woman's actions, and adhering to the principle of respecting the elderly and caring for the young, they stepped aside to let her in.
As soon as Song Miqiu entered, he saw a richly dressed woman sitting on the ground, who was clearly a wealthy person.
