Chapter 28 Dream
Chapter 28 Dream
"Yingzi, Yingzi..."
In a daze, it seemed as if I heard that familiar name again, as if I had returned to that bustling world.
Hmm, time for work. I got up out of habit. Wait, I opened my eyes... I think I'm dead! Realizing this might be a dream, I thought to myself, "What a wretched thing I am, dreaming about going to work! What a joke! It's my dream, I'm in charge! Time to go home!"
Walking towards the direction of my childhood home, it felt like my parents were back in their youth. There was a big tree in the yard, where the family would sit and enjoy the shade in the summer. My brother and I would fight over a slice of watermelon, and my mother would be there, saying, "Don't fight, there's more, there's more." In the end, the slice of watermelon fell to the ground during their struggle, and neither my brother nor I got any. My mother gave each of us another slice. That was the sweetest slice of watermelon I had ever eaten, and I've never tasted such a sweet watermelon since.
He tried to walk towards the yard, but he kept going around in circles and couldn't get in. Lin Ziping was extremely anxious. He finally managed to climb over the wall and saw his father and younger brother squatting in the yard, burning something by the big tree. His mother was standing to the side, wiping away tears.
As Lin Ziping approached, he heard his mother crying and cursing, "That heartless girl is so cruel. She kept it a secret from us and did some kind of body donation. She didn't even leave us a trace."
Body donation? Yes, Lin Ziping recalled an argument he had with his family. His mother had said that if he didn't get married and have children now, no one would be able to collect his body after he passed away. In a fit of anger, she went to the hospital the next day and signed a voluntary organ donation agreement. Knowing this now, Lin Ziping thought he probably would have signed it anyway.
“Mom, please don’t talk about my sister anymore. She’s gone now. It’s good that she donated her useful things to others. At least she still has something to live on in this world,” the younger brother said.
“Yes, it’s good to help others. Maybe we’ll see the people who received Yingzi’s organs in the future, and maybe we’ll even see Yingzi’s body in the hospital someday.” Dad stopped burning the food and hugged Mom. “We’ll bury Yingzi’s clothes and belongings in the yard. It’s good that they can stay with us forever. Didn’t you used to say that you didn’t see Yingzi more than a few times a year? Now she’s in this yard, just like this tree. Yingzi was here when she was little, and she will be here in the future.”
“Yes, Mom, don’t cry. If my sister knew, she would feel bad too. We all need to be okay.” The younger brother stood up and wiped away his mother’s tears.
Lin Ziping tried to step forward, but his feet wouldn't move, and he was sweating profusely with anxiety.
"Young master, young master..."
Lin Ziping opened his eyes and saw that it was Granny Liao wiping his sweat. It was already daylight outside.
"Did the young master have a nightmare, or is the blanket too thick? Why are you sweating so much?" Granny Liao put down the handkerchief in her hand. "Would you like to sleep a little longer?"
Lin Ziping shook his head blankly, feeling a sense of loss. It really was just a dream!
"The clothes are already laid out by the bedside. I'll go and have the maid bring some food over." After saying this, Granny Liao lowered the bed curtains and went out.
Lin Ziping lay down for a while, then got up, dressed, opened the door, and went into the yard.
The locust tree in the yard had begun to sprout buds. Lin Ziping casually sat on a chair under the tree, recalling the dream he had just had. It felt very real. But did his family used to have a tree in their yard? His memory was a bit hazy. After thinking about it carefully, he realized that this was probably how his family was now after he left.
As a staunch materialist, Lin Ziping secretly hoped that the dream was a sign of divine mercy, allowing him to go back and see the world.
A gentle breeze rustled the trees, as if responding to the thoughts in his heart. Lin Ziping closed his eyes, a tear rolling down his cheek. We all need to be well.
Life returned to normal. Perhaps it was a case of being bitten by a snake once and being afraid of a rope for ten years. Recently, Lin Ziping had been receiving a lot of attention in the Lin family, and Granny Liao was appearing around him much more frequently. Lin Ziping understood this, which led him to return to his reclusive life and almost lose contact with the outside world.
This experience made me realize that this era is not the safe and harmonious society of the past. Danger is everywhere, and we must improve our self-protection ability. Therefore, I studied more diligently with my two masters. In addition, I could not go out. My days were basically spent reading, practicing martial arts, sleeping, and eating, which was as regular as could be.
Before we knew it, it was time to go to the academy. Arriving at the foot of the mountain, it felt like stepping into another world. From the foot of the mountain to the entrance of the academy, peach blossoms, pear blossoms, and apricot blossoms, white, pink, and red, were vying for attention, creating a lively scene.
"Lin Ziping!"
Someone called from behind. Turning around, he saw Ji Xun pulling Fang Zhili toward him, followed by He Jinbao and Zhang Mo. Lin Ziping took two steps back, pretending not to see them, and turned to leave.
"Lin Ziping, why didn't you respond when I called you?" Ji Xun caught up quickly, panting.
“Yes, why didn’t Young Master Ziping wait for us?” Fang Zhili said, stepping forward.
"Young Master Ji, Young Master Fang, Young Master He, Young Master Zhang." After Lin Ziping was abducted by human traffickers during the Lantern Festival, Zhu Zi became more composed. At this moment, he stood on the side of Ji Xun and Fang Zhili, intentionally or unintentionally blocking the two from getting close to Lin Ziping.
Lin Ziping, suppressing the urge to roll his eyes, put on a smiling mask and said, "Young Master Ji, I turned around and didn't see you. I thought I must have misheard."
As for Fang Zhili, He Jinbao, Zhang Mo, and others, let's just ignore them.
Ji Xun pushed the pillar aside and approached Lin Ziping, asking, "How did you escape from that carriage? Why haven't you come looking for me these past two days..."
Was this season's tour switched? Before, he bullied the original owner and told himself not to trust others too much in the cave, acting all mature. Now he's acting like a chatty, silly goose. Could there be some kind of conspiracy?
Lin Ziping took a step back, creating some distance, and said, "I've been recuperating these past few days, and my uncle won't let me go out."
Ji Xun nodded, pulled He Jinbao and Zhang Mo aside and said, "He Jinbao and Zhang Mo used to bully you, but from now on you are my friend, Ji Xun, and no one can bully you."
Zhang Mo said, "Young Master Ziping, I was wrong before, I hope you can forgive me."
He Jinbao said awkwardly, "I hope Ziping will understand."
Seeing that Lin Ziping did not speak, Ji Xun winked at He Jinbao.
“No need, I’ve already settled things with Young Master Jinbao and Young Master Mo last time,” Lin Ziping said. “As for Young Master Ji and Young Master Zhili…” Lin Ziping didn’t finish his sentence.
Upon hearing this, Fang Zhili chuckled softly, "Thank you for taking care of Ah Xun, Ziping. I apologize for what happened before and hope that Young Master Ziping can forgive me."
Ji Xun looked at Fang Zhili, then at Lin Ziping, and said, "I also apologize to Ziping for what happened before, and I hope you can forgive me."
Lin Ziping suppressed the strange feeling in his heart, said nothing, and strode away.
They hurt the original owner of the body, and whether it was genuine or unintentional, no one can forgive them on behalf of the original owner.
