Chapter 355 Stone Armored Beast
Chapter 355 Stone Armored Beast
Chapter 355: The Stone-Armored Beast
The arduous journey over the past few days had left Qiu Langyu, Zhao Wanqing, and Xiao Wan exhausted.
But in order to find the treasure as soon as possible, they still led their soldiers on a difficult journey through the mountains and forests.
The sky suddenly darkened, with dark clouds looming overhead, and a sudden downpour began.
The raindrops pounded on the leaves like arrows, making a "pitter-patter" sound, and the muddy path became slippery.
Qiu Langyu directed the soldiers to reinforce their packs while shouting:
"Quickly, find shelter from the rain!"
Zhao Wanqing pulled Xiao Wan into a hollow under a rock wall, but as soon as they stood firm, they heard a low rumbling sound behind them.
She turned around abruptly and saw a huge mudslide rolling down the hillside.
It was mixed with broken wood and rubble, heading straight towards them!
"careful!"
Qiu Langyu reacted quickly, shoving aside a panicked soldier beside him, but he himself was covered in splattered mud.
He quickly got up and shouted the order:
"Everyone run to higher ground! Don't get buried by the mudslide!"
The soldiers scattered in panic, but some slipped and fell on the wet ground, and were about to be swept away by the flood.
Upon seeing this, Xiao Wan rushed over without hesitation, pulled up a soldier who had slipped, and dragged him to safety.
Despite being physically exhausted, she gritted her teeth and persevered until the last person was out of danger.
The rain grew heavier and heavier, and the world seemed to be nothing more than a hazy curtain of water.
Qiu Langyu looked up at a distant mountain peak and vaguely saw a relatively flat highland there.
So he immediately said:
"There's higher ground over there! Everyone, follow me and charge over there! Don't stop!"
The group trudged towards higher ground, their faces constantly brushed by tree branches, the cold wind biting at their skin.
Finally, they successfully reached higher ground, temporarily escaping the threat of the mudslide.
However, the danger was not over.
When they caught their breath, they suddenly realized that their feet were in soft mud, and they sank deeper into it with every step.
Zhao Wanqing quickly reminded him:
"Don't move! The mud will suck us in!"
After calmly analyzing the surrounding environment, Qiu Langyu decided to use the ropes he carried with him to build a simple passage.
"Tie the rope to the tree trunk, then step on the rope to cross!"
After he finished speaking, he took the lead in demonstrating, carefully crossing the dangerous area.
Suddenly, the earth shook violently, and a deep rumbling sound came from the hillside.
Before anyone could react, a powerful mudslide swept in like a ferocious beast!
A torrent of mud, boulders, and broken logs surged down with overwhelming force, engulfing everyone within it.
Zhao Wanqing reacted quickly, grabbing Qiu Langyu's sleeve and shouting:
"Hold on tight!"
Xiao Wan quickly grabbed Zhao Wanqing's arm, and the three of them stood closely together.
Trying to steady himself, he still couldn't resist the violent force.
Qiu Langyu shouted loudly:
"Don't let go! Hold on!"
The soldiers scattered and fled in chaos, but many were instantly swept away by the torrent.
Screams rose and fell, disappearing into the rolling mud in the blink of an eye.
Qiu Langyu, Zhao Wanqing, and Xiao Wan were swept away by the mudslide and rushed downhill.
The rubble kept hitting them, causing unbearable pain, but they dared not let go of each other's hands.
The wind is howling!
The mudslide is rolling!
A person is circling!
The situation is extremely urgent!
After gliding for an unknown period of time, their consciousness gradually faded, and all three fell into a coma.
After a day and a night, Qiu Langyu slowly opened his eyes, feeling unbearable soreness all over his body, as if every movement was tearing his bones apart.
He struggled to lift his head and found himself lying in an unfamiliar cave.
It was pitch black all around, and the outlines could only be barely made out by the faint light reflected off the water.
“Zhao Wanqing… Xiao Wan…”
Qiu Langyu called out his companion's name hoarsely, his voice weak but urgent.
He groped his way to his feet and found Zhao Wanqing and Xiao Wan lying not far away. The two were covered in mud and pale, but they were still breathing.
The soldiers seemed to have been scattered as well. All around was silent, with only the occasional dripping of water echoing in the empty cave.
Qiu Langyu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
He knew he had to stay calm and find a way out was the most urgent thing.
He dragged his weary body to Zhao Wanqing's side and gently patted her cheek:
"Zhao Wanqing, wake up...we are still alive."
Zhao Wanqing slowly opened her eyes, her gaze unfocused, then a relieved smile appeared on her face:
"Thank goodness... I didn't abandon you all..."
Xiao Wan also slowly woke up on the other side. Seeing that everyone was safe and sound, she choked up and said:
"That's great... I thought I'd never see you again."
Qiu Langyu looked around, pondering to himself:
Where did this disaster take them? What should we do?
The three were exhausted and slumped down in a damp corner of the cave.
Hunger was tormenting them, Zhao Wanqing said in a low voice:
"Let's rest for a bit, then we'll go find something to eat..."
Xiao Wan also sighed:
"But there was nothing in the cave, only darkness and cold wind."
Qiu Langyu tried to cheer himself up and looked around for possible food sources.
But apart from jagged rocks and dripping stone walls, there was nothing there.
Just as he was about to comfort his two companions, a low, eerie voice suddenly came from the depths of the cave—
"Awoo..."
The voice seemed to come from the ancient wilderness, carrying a chilling sense of oppression.
"Oh no! There's a wild animal!"
Qiu Langyu immediately became alert and shielded Zhao Wanqing and Xiao Wan behind him.
A moment later, a huge dark shadow slowly emerged from the depths of the cave, accompanied by deafening footsteps:
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Each step felt like the beating of a war drum, and the entire cave trembled.
The three of them felt their hearts pounding and their breathing becoming rapid.
When the monster fully emerged from the shadows, they finally saw what it looked like—it was a massive, armored stone beast!
It stood a full two zhang tall, its entire body covered in a thick, armor-like shell of gray rock.
Sharp claws gleamed coldly, and its eyes burned like embers, radiating a bloodthirsty light.
It exhaled heavy breaths from its nostrils, as if it were ready to pounce on its prey at any moment.
"Back off! Don't move!"
Qiu Langyu quickly drew his pistol, assumed a defensive stance, and whispered to the two men behind him,
"Stay behind me and don't make a sound!"
The stone-armored behemoth seemed to have sensed their presence and let out a deafening roar.
The sound echoed through the cave, and dust fell in gusts.
Its tail lashed out, shattering a large rock nearby, sending fragments flying that nearly grazed Qiu Langyu's face.
Zhao Wanqing clenched her fists, while Xiao Wan cowered closer to her, but the two suppressed their fear and made no sound.
Qiu Langyu knew that facing such a ferocious beast, a head-on confrontation was not a wise move; he had to find a way to outsmart it or escape when the opportunity arose.
However, how many chances could they possibly have in such a narrow cave?
A tense atmosphere filled the air; a life-or-death duel was about to unfold...
