Chapter 117 The Path of Defying Gods 9
Chapter 117 The Path of Defying Gods 9
This sudden question stunned Shen Ying. Her eyes widened, and a look of horror instantly appeared on her face.
She never imagined that the king would raise such a question during a discussion about such a matter of life and death.
She was just an ordinary person who had come all this way through hardship just to stop divine punishment, and she really didn't know what it was about her that attracted the king.
Everyone else present was also stunned speechless by the king's astonishing words. The ministers exchanged bewildered glances, their eyes filled with astonishment.
Sai, who had been standing silently to the side, suddenly began to emit cold air, which caused the surrounding temperature to drop sharply.
He, who was originally indifferent to worldly affairs and had a calm expression, seemed to have been provoked. A sharp look, unlike anything he had ever seen before, flashed in his eyes as he coldly looked at the king, as if warning him to take back what he had just said.
The whole scene fell into an extremely awkward and tense stalemate.
Ignoring the strange looks from those around him, the king strode up to Shen Ying.
This is where Shen Ying works on a daily basis. Various books, documents, and some commonly used utensils are placed around her. It is completely different from the luxurious council hall of the palace, but the king's eyes are only on Shen Ying.
"Shen Ying, I know this may not be the right place to express my love, but I can no longer suppress my feelings."
Since I met you in the council chamber, you have been like a pebble thrown into the lake of my heart, creating ripples on the surface.
Your courage, intelligence, and unwavering determination to save the world have captivated me. It was love at first sight.
The king's voice carried a hint of urgency and tension. He stared intently at Shen Ying, as if the whole world had shrunk to just her.
Shen Ying was completely bewildered; this was the first time she had ever encountered such a direct confession.
Her mind raced as she tried to understand the situation.
After a long while, she stammered, "Your Majesty, you...you must have made a mistake? I'm just an ordinary person!" As she spoke, her face turned bright red, like a ripe apple.
The king was expressing his deepest feelings to Shen Ying, his words flowing out like a gentle stream.
But at that moment, a cold glint flashed in Sain's eyes, and he instantly moved to Shen Ying's side.
In an instant, a dazzling and mysterious light appeared, enveloping Saien and Shen Ying like a vortex.
A flash of light, and they vanished from their spot in an instant.
The king's eyes widened instantly, filled with disbelief.
The king frowned, his eyes showing both disappointment at Shen Ying's sudden disappearance and apprehension and curiosity about Sain's mysterious power.
He paced back and forth, muttering to himself, trying to understand the incredible scene that had just unfolded.
Saien and Shen Ying vanished from their spot in an instant, and in the blink of an eye, they appeared deep in a tranquil forest.
Here, the trees provide ample shade, and sunlight filters through the leaves, creating patches of golden light.
Shen Ying stood in the forest, bewildered. The tranquility here was a stark contrast to the scene before. She looked at Sai En, her eyes filled with confusion.
Sain frowned, and the anger in his eyes puzzled Shen Ying. Yet, his childlike demeanor softened her heart for a moment, and she wanted to hug him.
But she rejected the idea as soon as it popped into her head.
Shen Ying pondered to herself, "What's wrong with me? He's a god, how could I have such a bold idea?"
Thinking this, she quietly calmed herself down and stopped having those strange thoughts.
Shen Ying blinked, then looked at Sain with a questioning look in her eyes: "Sir, why did you bring me here?"
With a serious expression and without the slightest hesitation, Sai said bluntly, "King, he wants to take you away, and I cannot let him succeed."
Shen Ying froze as if she had been frozen in place, her eyes widening slightly, her lips parting slightly, and her mind buzzing like a swarm of bees.
The king's confession had already left her bewildered, and Sai's sudden reason left her speechless for a moment, standing there frozen in place.
After a moment, Shen Ying seemed to suddenly come to her senses, hurriedly swallowing hard. She wiped away the incredulous guess that had just surfaced in her mind.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and her gaze toward Sain became more serious.
“My lord, you must take me back.” Shen Ying said, glancing around. “You can’t keep doing these strange things like suddenly disappearing, especially in front of the king. We have more important things to do now.”
Saien's lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but Shen Ying quickly interrupted him: "I will explain it to the king myself and refuse him properly. Right now, I'm only thinking about completing the mission and won't consider anything else."
Sain frowned, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. After a moment of silence, he slowly nodded.
Shen Ying returned to the palace, met the king, bowed respectfully, and appeared calm.
“Your Majesty, thank you for your favor, but I cannot accept it. Divine punishment is imminent, and my only wish is to join forces with everyone to resist this calamity and protect our country. I am well aware of my humble status, and I hope Your Majesty will understand that we should focus our efforts on dealing with the crisis.” Her words were sincere, her tone calm yet firm, and the king understood her intentions.
Although the king was somewhat disappointed, he was also moved by Shen Ying's righteousness and nodded in understanding.
"Who is this Saien? He seems really powerful," the king asked again.
After a moment of silence, Shen Ying said in an extremely serious and solemn manner, "They are people that none of us can afford to offend."
The king fell silent, looking at Shen Ying with a serious expression. He seemed to understand what Shen Ying was trying to convey, and nodded, indicating that Shen Ying could leave.
Shen Ying breathed a sigh of relief. After leaving the palace, she went to find Sai En.
"The matter is resolved, let's go back." Shen Ying looked at Sai En, her tone calm yet relaxed. After speaking, she took a step, her steps light and steady.
As Sai watched her retreating figure, a slight smile unconsciously crept onto his lips. He quickly followed her, embarking on the return journey together.
The afterglow of the setting sun gently spilled onto the earth like a golden veil. After a busy day, Shen Ying dragged her leaden legs back to her temporary residence.
Her face was etched with fatigue, and her eyes looked somewhat dull from long hours of work.
Saien watched her quietly. After a moment, he stepped forward, took the items from Shen Ying's hands without saying a word, and gently placed them on the table beside her.
Then, he gently held Shen Ying's shoulders and guided her to sit down in the chair.
Saien turned around, took a soft blanket from the cabinet, and gently covered Shen Ying with it. The warmth of the blanket, like his care, instantly enveloped Shen Ying.
He then brought over a steaming hot drink, which he had specially prepared for Shen Ying, emitting a soothing aroma.
Saien knelt down, held the cup to Shen Ying's lips, and said softly, "Drink some of this; it will relieve your fatigue." His voice was deep and gentle.
Shen Ying took the cup, took a small sip, and felt a sense of comfort as the warm and mellow liquid slid down her throat.
Shen Ying's tense nerves gradually relaxed. She closed her eyes slightly, enjoying this rare tranquility. The fatigue of the day seemed to gradually dissipate at this moment.
