Chapter 110 The Path of Defying Gods 2
Chapter 110 The Path of Defying Gods 2
Shen Ying nestled in her little house, like a little squirrel thrown into a strange forest.
Although the room looked cozy, it felt more like a cage trapping her in the present moment.
No one around knew where the gods lived; there were only legends, which were so fantastical that they seemed like something someone had made up while drunk.
Shen Ying thought to herself, "This is really something. They want me to get close to the gods, but they won't even give me an address. Do they expect me to shout all over the world, 'Hey, God, where are you?' I might be mistaken for a madman before I even find the gods."
She plopped down on the bed, which creaked as if mocking her helplessness.
"What's going on? I've been thrown into an unsolvable game and I can't quit. This is so unlucky," Shen Ying muttered to the roof.
Rumble... Shen Ying's stomach growled at an inopportune moment, and she realized that she was hungry.
She got up and walked to the kitchen. Looking at the unfamiliar stoves, pots, pans and bowls, she couldn't help but feel worried.
Her cooking skills have always been somewhat questionable; she either eats ready-made meals or orders takeout.
She stood in front of the stove for a while, wondering where to start, when her body moved instinctively.
She picked up some firewood and stuffed it into the stove, then tried to light it with a flint. When the flames suddenly shot up, she was startled.
Next, she picked out a few potatoes, a carrot, and a piece of meat from the pile of ingredients and began to process them.
Although my knife skills were clumsy when I was chopping vegetables, at least I didn't cut my finger.
She threw all the ingredients into the pot, added some water and seasonings, and then quietly watched the contents of the pot boil.
Before long, a decent-looking lunch was placed on the simple dining table. Looking at the food, Shen Ying felt a little smug: "Hey, I really did an exceptional job!"
But when she put the food in her mouth, the taste made her frown instantly.
It was both salty and bland, with a strange taste, which was simply due to her terrible cooking skills.
"Oh my god, what kind of culinary disaster is this?" She grimaced, but she was so hungry that she had no choice but to force herself to finish the terrible lunch. As she ate, she muttered, "It seems that God doesn't want me to have an easy time. First, there was the problem of getting close to the gods, and now even eating a meal is a problem."
Shen Ying decided to look for clues from the elderly people in the town first. She took out the little savings the original owner had left and went out to buy some small cookies.
These cookies emitted an enticing aroma, which was a key "tool" for her to obtain information.
She began visiting elderly people door-to-door.
At each house, she would first chat with the elderly, then casually steer the conversation toward ancient legends.
At first, most of the elderly people thought she was just a curious child and didn't take her questions seriously. Some even said directly, "Child, why are you asking these questions? Be careful not to offend the gods."
But Shen Ying persisted and eventually brought out the sweet cookies.
As the elderly ate the sweet cookies, their attitude gradually softened.
Finally, after tasting the sweet cake, a blind old woman pulled Shen Ying to her side and whispered mysteriously, "I've heard that deep in the misty forest behind the town, there's a long-abandoned shrine. There used to be some unusual atmosphere there, perhaps related to what you want to know."
"But child, that place is very eerie; very few people who go in come out safely."
Shen Ying's heart stirred. She thanked the old woman, looked towards the back mountain, and took a deep breath.
She prepared dry food and water, took the old dagger she had bought from the blacksmith's shop, and headed towards the back mountain.
As soon as she entered the misty forest, the mist seemed to come alive, desperately trying to get into her nose and eyes, making her cough incessantly.
The path beneath her feet was rugged and uneven, and the vines seemed to be deliberately causing trouble, reaching out from time to time to try to trip her.
While trying to steady herself, Shen Ying muttered, "Am I one of those unlucky people who can't even drink cold water without getting stuck in their teeth?"
After much difficulty, they finally found the abandoned shrine. The shrine was dilapidated and covered with dust and cobwebs.
"Is there really a clue to the gods here?" Shen Ying was skeptical, but she still cautiously stepped forward to examine it.
Suddenly, a small monster with three eyes darted out from behind the shrine and squeaked at her.
Shen Ying was startled and exclaimed in a low voice, "My God!" As she spoke, she gripped her dagger tightly, got into a fighting stance, and prepared to fight this little monster.
Just as she was preparing for a battle with the little monster, a sound suddenly came from the forest behind her.
That was the sound of branches being trampled and breaking, exceptionally clear in the silent forest, as if someone had struck her nerves hard.
Shen Ying's heart leaped into her throat, and cold sweat seeped from her back. She was now truly in a dilemma. The little monster with three eyes in front of her was already giving her a headache enough, and the eerie light flashing in its eyes and the "squeaking" sounds it made seemed to be a provocation to her.
But now, the commotion behind us is even more dangerous, as if something is lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce at any moment.
"what happened?"
Just as Shen Ying's heart was pounding with nervousness, feeling like a small animal trapped in a desperate situation, a clear and gentle voice suddenly came from behind her, like a mountain spring flowing through her heart.
The voice carried a strange, soothing power. Shen Ying was stunned for a moment, and her tense nerves miraculously relaxed a little. Her hand, which had been gripping the dagger like an iron clamp, also loosened.
However, the three-eyed little monster in front of her seemed to have been injected with stimulants, and suddenly charged towards her with excited howls.
The lightning speed brought with it a gust of bloody wind, and Shen Ying's heart instantly jumped into her throat. Instinctively, she raised the dagger again and held it horizontally in front of her.
To her surprise, the three-eyed monster brushed past her the moment it got close, the wind it created ruffling her hair, and it rushed straight behind her.
Shen Ying turned her head in surprise and saw that the three-eyed little monster, which had originally looked fierce, was now rubbing affectionately against a man's leg.
Its terrifying face was adorned with a fawning expression, its three eyes were narrowed to slits, and it made whimpering sounds, like a spoiled puppy. It looked rather comical.
Shen Ying's gaze moved upwards, and the moment she saw the other person's face, she felt her breath catch in her throat.
It was a face that seemed like that of a god, and the impact of its beauty was like a surging wave crashing against her soul.
The other person's white hair, as white as frost and snow, was casually draped over their shoulders, radiating a soft glow in the dark forest, as if they were the embodiment of moonlight.
Those blue eyes were like the deepest ocean, or a cloudless clear sky, clear and profound, exuding endless mystery, as pure and holy as the unattainable sacred lotus on the snow-capped mountain peak.
He was dressed in a simple white robe, without any adornment, yet he appeared incredibly noble beside the dilapidated shrine, exuding an aura of sacred inviolability, as if he did not belong to this mortal world.
Shen Ying murmured subconsciously, "This... could this be the legendary god?"
Her voice was as soft as a breeze, and her eyes were filled with shock and awe.
