Chapter 108 Blue Eyes
Chapter 108 Blue Eyes
In just a moment, when Shen Ying turned her head back, the world seemed to have been repainted with new colors in the blink of an eye.
Her gaze fell on Kaka across from her, who was smiling innocently and brightly, a smile that should have been as warm as the sun.
However, the surrounding blood and the bodies lying on the ground, their fates unknown, created a bizarre scene when his smile intertwined with the bloody imagery, like a demon revealing its monstrous form in a flower-filled Garden of Eden.
"Mission complete, exiting the game."
Shen Ying felt like she was being roasted by fire, her whole body was burning hot, and her head was spinning, as if she were on a roller coaster.
She found fever reducers in the apartment.
She shuffled slowly to the kitchen in her slippers to get some water. Her steps were incredibly unsteady, as if each step required all her strength.
She poured water into a cup, accidentally spilling some on the counter. She muttered to herself helplessly, "Even the water is causing trouble."
After taking her medicine, she curled up in a ball on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, and softly hummed, "I need to ask for leave..."
After taking leave, Shen Ying fell asleep in a daze due to the fever, her consciousness seemingly lost in a fog.
In this dreamlike state, she felt her body become light and airy, as if floating on clouds.
She didn't know how much time had passed when a warm feeling enveloped her, like sunlight piercing through the clouds.
She felt as if she were surrounded by soft feathers, or enveloped by a warm and familiar force. It was an embrace, firm and warm, carrying a sense of reassurance.
She instinctively snuggled closer to that embrace, as if she had found the warmest fire on a cold winter's day. A slight smile appeared on her lips, and she murmured a few words. In this warm embrace, she fell into a deep sleep again, as if all the loneliness and pain had been driven away by this embrace.
The next day, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains and fell on Shen Ying's face. She slowly woke up and found herself feeling much better. Her fever had subsided, but she was still a little weak.
She had just struggled to sit up in bed when the doorbell rang.
She shuffled to the door in her slippers and opened it. There stood her strange neighbor from next door.
He was carrying a thermos filled with steaming millet porridge and a side dish, emitting a faint fragrance. Next to him was a bag containing several freshly steamed buns, soft and fluffy, as if saying, "Eat me and you'll be all set."
This scene left Shen Ying a little bewildered, inexplicably moved, and somewhat puzzled. How did her neighbor seem to know she was sick? Then she dismissed the thought, "Ha, how could that be!"
The neighbor walked into the house without a word, placed breakfast on the table with practiced ease, and then sat quietly to the side.
Shen Ying stared blankly for a while before realizing what was happening and went to wash up.
When I brush my teeth and wash my face, I can feel that quiet gaze falling on me.
As Shen Ying ate her breakfast, her eyes kept glancing unconsciously at her neighbor.
She felt like a kitten was scratching at her heart. Her neighbor sat there quietly, and today his eyes, hidden by his bangs, seemed to be concealing a huge secret, constantly drawing her in.
The bangs covering her eyes were like a mysterious veil. Shen Ying felt as if she were bewitched, her fingers itching to lift the veil and uncover the unknown behind it.
Finally, as if by some strange twist of fate, she reached out and touched her neighbor's bangs.
The moment her hand touched her neighbor's bangs, time seemed to stand still.
The neighbor didn't flinch, but just blinked slightly, seemingly puzzled.
Shen Ying slowly lifted a few strands of hair, revealing her blue eyes without reservation.
Shen Ying's heart skipped a beat. Those eyes were like the most dazzling sapphires in the night sky, so deep that she felt as if she were about to drown in them.
The neighbor's innocent and naive gaze complemented his exquisite and handsome face, making him look like a god who had stepped out of an ancient and mysterious painting.
He gazed intently at Shen Ying, his eyes seeming to hold the stars and the sea, causing Shen Ying to forget to breathe for a moment. The surrounding air seemed to heat up, and she felt her face burning. Her mind went blank, leaving only the stunning face before her.
A quiet atmosphere spread between the two, as if the whole world had held its breath.
A moment later, Shen Ying seemed to wake up suddenly from a dream, and lowered her hand as if she had been electrocuted.
Her face flushed instantly, and her eyes darted around in a panic, trying to find a suitable reason for her rash action.
"Um... I... I was just suddenly curious. You keep covering your eyes. I... I didn't mean to."
It really was something I did subconsciously.
Shen Ying stammered, wishing she could disappear into a crack in the ground. Her usual quick wit had vanished without a trace, leaving only a deep sense of embarrassment spreading through the cramped space.
Shen Ying gave a dry laugh, trying to ease the awkward atmosphere that was almost frozen in her mind. She stammered, "Are you mixed race?... You're quite pretty, why do you keep your bangs so long?"
After saying this, she wished she could bite off her own tongue; the question was just too awkward.
The neighbor listened without any emotional fluctuation, simply uttering a few words in a flat tone: "You can cut it for me."
The voice was like a deep pool of water, without any ripples, yet it stunned Shen Ying once again.
Her eyes widened, she pointed at herself, her face full of disbelief: "Me? Me, cut it?" The neighbor nodded slightly, looking like she wasn't joking.
Shen Ying took a deep breath, like a soldier about to go to battle, holding scissors tightly in one hand and a comb in the other, standing in front of her neighbor.
Her eyes betrayed her nervousness and unease as she asked again, "Are you sure you want me to cut your hair? I don't have much experience, so please don't be angry if it's not done well."
Her voice trembled slightly, and her heart pounded. She was both afraid of messing up her neighbor's hair and felt a strange excitement at this sudden trust.
The neighbor nodded.
Shen Ying held the scissors in front of her neighbor's hair, hesitating to cut it, looking as if she were disassembling the most sophisticated instrument.
Finally, she gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and with a "snip," the scissors cut off the first strand of hair.
After all that fuss, the haircut was finally done.
Shen Ying secretly rejoiced. The haircut was actually a bit uneven, but her neighbor's face was just too lethal.
Against his delicate features and unique temperament, the hairstyle actually looked rather unruly and handsome.
Shen Ying nodded in satisfaction and tidied up the scissors, comb, and other tools.
Afterwards, the neighbor and Shen Ying sat on the sofa together watching TV. The two didn't say much, but a special kind of warmth filled the air, as if the distance between them had been shortened a little more in this little interlude.
