Chapter 776: The Underworld
Chapter 776: The Underworld
Chen Yile stood up and stretched his aching limbs. "Pollution? What do you mean?"
Yan Zhen pointed at the golden light above his head and said, "The energy shield of the teleportation point has begun to dissipate. If we don't leave in time, the entire stone tower will be contaminated. By then, this place will become the lair of the demon spirits."
Chen Yile was horrified when he heard this: "Then what should we do now?"
Yan Zhen pointed to a mark on the map: "Go north, there is another teleportation point on this plain. We must get there before the teleportation point is contaminated."
Chen Yile nodded: "Okay, let's set off now."
The two quickly packed their bags and prepared to leave the stone tower.
However, just as they were about to walk out of the stone tower, Chen Yile suddenly noticed some strange symbols carved on the wall.
He took a closer look and said, "This seems to be some kind of ancient spell..."
Yan Zhen also came over: "These symbols record the secrets of the teleportation points. Each teleportation point is connected to the Yin and Yang Hub. They are like ties connecting to the underworld. Once a teleportation point is contaminated, the pollution will spread along the ties to other teleportation points."
Chen Yile pondered, "So, the imbalance in the underworld's luck isn't just because I used the underworld map to resurrect Lin Qingyao?"
Yan Zhen sighed, "That's probably not entirely true. The balance of the underworld is an extremely complex system, and any small fluctuation could trigger a butterfly effect. Your resurrection of Lin Qingyao was just a fuse; the real crisis comes from the disorder of the Yin-Yang hub."
Chen Yile's heart trembled: "Then...how do we repair the Yin-Yang Hub?"
Yan Zhen shook his head. "This matter involves a wide range of issues, and I don't know the answer yet. But one thing is certain: only by finding the core of the Yin-Yang Hub can this problem be completely resolved. And to do that, you still need to complete this journey on the map of the underworld."
Chen Yile nodded, thoughtfully.
When the two walked out of the stone tower, it was already bright.
A thin layer of fog still covered the plain in the distance, as if telling of the thrilling events of last night.
Chen Yile looked back at the gradually collapsing stone tower and prayed silently in his heart that the next teleportation point would not be as dangerous as this one.
After crossing a barren plain, Chen Yile and Yan Zhen finally arrived at the next teleportation point marked on the underworld map.
However, when they stepped into this area, the scene before them still surprised Chen Yile. Everything here was no different from that in the human world.
Shops lined both sides of the neat streets, the street lights were dim and warm, and the aroma of food wafted through the air.
The most surprising thing is that there are still pedestrians coming and going on the street.
However, these pedestrians were just blurry black shadows, their figures were illusory and there was no expression on their faces.
“This place is so similar to the human world.”
Chen Yile muttered to himself and shuddered unconsciously.
Yan Zhen walked ahead without pausing. "The underworld isn't as dark and gloomy as most people imagine. Some places, due to special reasons, retain a similar appearance to the human world. But the more such places are, the more dangerous they are."
Chen Yile followed closely behind: "Why do you say that?"
Yan Zhen didn't look back, his tone solemn, "Because these places are more likely to attract the undead. And if the undead stay for too long, they will become obsessed and may even become evil spirits."
The two continued walking forward, and an eerie quietness filled the air.
Chen Yile always felt that there were cold eyes watching them from behind, but when he looked back, he saw nothing.
Finally, they arrived at the destination marked on the map - an abandoned school.
The school gate was already rusty, and the iron chain hanging on the ground made a "clattering" sound. The school name could be vaguely seen on the sign at the gate.
"Is this the place we are looking for?" Chen Yile asked with a frown.
Yan Zhen nodded: "According to the mark on the map, the teleportation point is hidden here. But the teleportation point will only appear under certain conditions."
Chen Yile looked around: "So what should we do now?"
Yan Zhen thought for a moment and said, "We can disguise ourselves as the school dormitory manager and enter here. After all, this is an abandoned school and usually not many people come to disturb us."
Chen Yile hesitated: "But we have nothing to prove that we are dormitory managers."
Yan Zhen smiled, took out something like a badge from his body and showed it to Chen Yile.
"Don't worry about that. I work for the King of Hell, who has given me the authority to act. As long as we behave as we should, the souls in the underworld won't doubt our identities."
In this way, the two decided to enter the school as dormitory managers.
They stood at the school gate and shouted in unison: "Dorm supervisor, check!"
As their shouts died down, the air around them suddenly became unusually quiet.
Many blurry figures suddenly appeared in the originally empty campus - those were the ghosts wandering here.
"Who are you?" a hoarse voice sounded.
Chen Yile and Yan Zhen turned their heads at the same time and saw a figure in a faded school uniform floating in the air.
His face was covered in dust and his eyes stared at them blankly.
"I'm the dorm manager here." Yan Zhen straightened his back and said in a serious tone, "This is my colleague. We're on routine inspection."
The undead was stunned for a moment, as if surprised by Yan Zhen's tone. He looked the two up and down, then nodded slowly, "Okay, you better be careful. This place has been haunted a lot lately."
"Thank you for the reminder." Yan Zhen responded politely, then pulled Chen Yile into the school.
The school corridors were filled with a musty smell, and the paint on the walls was peeling and mottled.
The doors and windows of the classroom were mostly closed, and occasionally some strange noises could be heard coming from inside.
There was the rustling sound of pencils scratching on paper, the sound of turning pages, and even the laughter and playfulness of students.
Chen Yile and Yan Zhen walked cautiously, and every time they passed a classroom, they carefully observed the movements inside.
However, every time they got closer, the sounds would stop abruptly.
"This place... is really strange." Chen Yile whispered, "It's clearly an abandoned school, why would anyone be active here?"
Yan Zhen didn't answer, but simply quickened his pace. His eyes were constantly scanning the surroundings, as if ready to respond to any emergency.
Suddenly, a burst of hurried footsteps came from the front. Chen Yile and Yan Zhen subconsciously glanced at each other and quickly hid in a corner to the side.
A blurry figure quickly passed by them and ran towards the depths of the teaching building.
The figure was moving extremely fast, leaving a long black shadow in the moonlight.
