Chapter 119 Giving Tu Nan a Big Red Envelope
Chapter 119 Giving Tu Nan a Big Red Envelope
After hanging up the phone, Huang's mother smiled broadly.
He kept repeating, "That's great, that's great!"
The shop owner looked at Sister Huang, who was very happy.
The shop owner peeked out curiously. "Sister Huang, what's making you so happy?"
Huang's mother took out three cents from her pocket and handed it over. "My grandson got into Tongji University!"
The shop owner stood up in surprise, his eyes wide. "Oh my goodness, is this your youngest daughter's child?"
Huang's mother smiled and nodded vigorously. "It's Ah Ling's son. Get me a bag of salt."
The shopkeeper quickly turned around, grabbed a bag of salt from the shelf, and handed it to her. "Congratulations, Sister Huang! This is wonderful news!"
Mrs. Huang counted out 15 cents and handed it over, her face still beaming. "Thank you, my child is very hardworking."
After paying, Huang's mother picked up the phone again and called her eldest daughter's workplace.
Holding the receiver, he recounted the news of Tu Nan's admission to university to his boss in detail.
She carried the salt and walked briskly home.
Back home, Huang's mother's heart had already flown back to Suzhou.
As I walked into the house, I saw the family photo we had taken together last time hanging on the wall.
I wonder when Lao Huang will come back. Our grandson is so promising. Lao Huang graduated from vocational school. If A-Ling could have gone to school normally, or at least attended a vocational school, she would have been closer to home and wouldn't have ended up dating Chao Ying in Changcheng, and then going to Suzhou with Chao Ying. But now it seems our daughter is doing well, so we can rest assured.
Huang's mother stepped onto a stool, took two bags from the wardrobe, threw them on the bed, and began packing.
She rummaged through this drawer for a while, then opened the wardrobe, picking out clothes to take to Suzhou, humming an off-key tune as she did so.
The door creaked open.
It was almost lunchtime. Mr. Huang, who had been strolling around all morning, was thinking about coming home for lunch. He pushed open the door and habitually glanced into the kitchen. "Why isn't anything cooked?"
Huang's mother was sitting on the bed, the room a complete mess from her ransacking. Hearing Old Huang's voice, she quickly stood up and hurried out of the room.
Mrs. Huang waved her hands excitedly. "Old Huang, it's big news! It's big news!"
Mr. Huang entered the house and was startled by what he saw. "A thief broke into the house?"
He stared wide-eyed, warily surveying his surroundings.
Huang's mother grabbed Huang's father's arm and shook it vigorously. "What?! Tu Nan got into Tongji University!"
The fan that Mr. Huang had been holding stopped abruptly, and his eyes widened even more. "You got into Tongji University?"
Mother Huang nodded firmly. "Isn't this a big deal? Isn't this a joyous occasion!"
Mr. Huang also came to his senses, grinning widely. "Yes, it's a joyous occasion!"
"Ah Ling called this morning and asked us to come and stay for a while."
Mr. Huang nodded without hesitation: “Go, go. Once our child gets into university, we’ll definitely go. We’ll stay at a guesthouse; we can’t cause any trouble for him.”
Mrs. Huang smiled and went back into the house to continue packing her luggage. "Tu Nan got into university, I have to give my little darling a big red envelope!"
Mr. Huang chimed in from the side, "A big red envelope! Five hundred yuan! I'll go with you to the bank to withdraw the money later!"
Huang's mother neatly put the folded clothes into her bag: "Great, our family has finally produced a college student. The two eldest sons went to vocational schools, which is not bad, but this is a university, Tongji University. I will be so proud to go out with my old friends. Ah Ling and Chao Ying have finally made it. I'm just waiting for Xiao Ting to get into university so we can enjoy life."
Mr. Huang put down his fan, walked to the glass cabinet, opened the door, and took out two bottles of wine. “Take these two bottles. Chaoying loves them. The two kids are on vacation, so let’s stay a while longer. Don’t take these; we can buy new ones when we get there.”
Huang's mother glared at him. "Buy, buy, buy everything! Save that money for your son. He's studying away from home, and we need money for everything. Every little bit helps."
Mr. Huang smiled, gently patted Mrs. Huang's shoulder, and turned to leave. "You go ahead and pack, I'll go downstairs and have a simple lunch."
"Go ahead, slice some meat, and fry an egg!"
That evening, her eldest daughter and her family came over. Before they even entered the door, Huang's mother heard the children's voices and hurried to greet them. "Aping, Ali, my darlings, come in quickly!"
"Grandpa, grandma!"
Huang Ling's two children went to vocational school and have already graduated and been assigned jobs. They are now working at the post office. Her younger daughter is about the same age as Tu Nan and will graduate from vocational school in two more years.
Ali (the eldest sister's husband) carried two boxes of pastries and a pack of cigarettes, which he placed on the table.
The family sat together, and Huang's mother told them that she and Lao Huang were going to Suzhou in two days.
As Ali spoke, he reached out and nudged Aping. “Dad, Mom, it’s great news that Aling’s son, Tunan, got into university, but Aping and I are too busy with work. The factory is making money lately, so we have to work overtime every day. We really can’t find the time to go over.”
Aping understood immediately, took a thick envelope from her bag, and handed it to Huang's mother. "Mom, this is for Tu Nan. It's just a little something from me as his aunt. Please take it with you. This child has been smart and quick-witted since he was little. Now that he's been admitted to such a good university, he'll definitely have a bright future."
Huang's mother took the envelope and gently patted A-Ping's hand. "Okay, Mom will take it to him for you. The child will be happy to receive it, knowing that his aunt cares about him."

Zhuang Chaoying only worked half a day today. After assigning summer homework to the students and making holiday plans, he finally relaxed completely. He hummed a little tune as he walked out of the school.
Ah Ling took the day off again today; the two had already arranged to meet at the entrance of the department store.
Zhuang Chaoying carried her briefcase and slowly walked towards the department store.
As I walked, I heard the cries of vendors on both sides of the road: "Osmanthus cake! Fragrant and sweet osmanthus cake!"
The sweet aroma instantly filled his nose.
Zhuang Chaoying walked over without thinking. "How much?"
The vendor answered enthusiastically, "Five cents each."
"Then I want four!"
Zhuang Chaoying thought that Ah Ling would like it.
He took out two cents from his pocket and handed it over, then took the paper bag containing the osmanthus cake, touched it—it was still warm—and put it in his briefcase.
They soon arrived at the entrance of the department store. Zhuang Chaoying stood in the shade, wiped the sweat from her forehead, looked at the street in the distance, and then looked at her watch. It was past one o'clock, and Ah Ling should be arriving soon.
Less than ten minutes later, a familiar figure in a blue dress walked over.
Zhuang Chaoying waved excitedly. "Ah Ling!"
