Chapter 202 This game has only just begun.
Chapter 202 This game has only just begun.
Qin Reng stared intently at his phone screen, his knuckles white, clearly on the verge of uncontrollable rage. He turned halfway to look at Yu Yuetong, only to find her leaning against the wall, as if the phone call was suffocating her.
He frowned and stepped forward: "Yu Yuetong, what exactly does he know?"
She looked up at him, her eyes like shattered glass: "He was able to find all this, maybe it's not more complicated than we thought, but..." Her voice suddenly stopped, as if her throat had been choked.
Qin Reng stared intently at her. "Just what?"
"As long as someone is watching our every move, and knows a little bit of the secret methods..." She lowered her head and chuckled, a laugh that sounded like a bitter laugh, or perhaps a sneer, "they'll find out sooner or later."
A ruthless glint flashed in Qin Reng's eyes, but before he could speak, Yu Yuetong suddenly raised her hand, stuffed her phone back into her bag, and moved her stiff lips: "No matter how much he knows, he can't possibly expose us. No one will believe something like this."
Qin Reng gritted his teeth and said, "Mo Qingcheng is a madman. You shouldn't have any illusions."
"Then what do you think I can do?" She turned and glared at him, her voice sharp with emotion. "Tie him up, chop him into pieces, and throw him into the Pacific Ocean?"
The angrier she became, the calmer her eyes grew. Seeing her fingertips trembling slightly, Qin Reng's rage gradually subsided.
He tried to keep his voice steady: "Don't panic. I'll handle him. You don't need to worry."
This concise reassurance should have been relaxing, but Yu Yuetong didn't feel relieved at all. She even couldn't help but wonder: if he was really that easy to deal with, then why did Mo Qingcheng dare to say such things in front of them?
The echoes of Mo Qingcheng's last three laughs still lingered in her ears, so jarring that they even gave her an unprecedented sense of foreboding.
Qin Reng seemed to see through her emotions and was about to continue comforting her when she suddenly stood up straight and pushed his hand away: "Let's go back."
Her tone was extremely calm, as if everything that had just happened was just a minor incident, not worth mentioning.
Qin Reng stared at her for a few seconds, then released her hand without saying anything. He felt as if her profile was encased in a thin layer of ice, making it impossible to touch her. And he simply didn't want to, nor could he bear to, break through that icy shell.
As the two walked side by side toward the car, a leaf brushed past in the wind, almost unnoticed by Yu Yuetong, when her phone vibrated again.
This time, it was a WeChat message notification—a photo sent from an unknown account with garbled text. The photo showed her and Qin Reng's swapped bodies, a clue inadvertently revealed in a conversation. The angle of the photo was so precise, it looked like it had been secretly taken.
She gripped her phone tightly, and as she swiped across the photo, another line of text popped up on the screen.
The text wasn't long, but it was enough to make her chest tighten.
"Ms. Yu, the game has only just begun."
She didn't dare show her phone to Qin Reng for even a second, just clutching it and looking down, continuing to pretend nothing was wrong. Qin Reng glanced at her, narrowing his eyes: "What's wrong with you?"
She turned her head slightly: "Nothing."
As soon as she finished speaking, the phone screen automatically turned off. However, the chill in her heart continued to spread, enveloping her completely.
The moment Yu Yuetong sat in the car, she finally took a deep breath, as if that could suppress the burning anxiety in her heart. But this unease clung to her consciousness like spider silk, making each breath carry a subtle tension.
Qin Reng sat beside her, turning his head to look at her, his eyes full of inquiry and concern. He knew she was deliberately hiding some things, but he didn't want to push her too hard. Yu Yuetong stared intently at the scenery rushing past outside the car window, trying to use the meaningless scene to cover up the turmoil in her heart.
The streets outside the car window gradually transitioned from bustling to quiet, and the entire city appeared even more indifferent in the night. Inside the moving carriage, the warm lighting felt like an unbearable burden, creating an invisible sense of oppression. But the atmosphere at this moment was increasingly tense due to the silent confrontation between the two.
“Yu Yuetong,” Qin Reng suddenly spoke, his voice soft yet powerful, “I need your trust. No matter what happens, we’ll be together.”
She turned her head, her gaze meeting his. In his deep eyes, there was a storm of unwavering determination. He was serious, even stubborn. She was silently moved; though she couldn't immediately let go, she wasn't so keen to reject this comfort.
As if to break the oppressive feeling brought by this emotion, she slightly raised the corners of her mouth and gave a bitter smile: "After switching bodies with you, I may not even trust myself anymore."
Qin Reng gave a faint smile as a response: "Then force yourself and trust me."
She said nothing more, nodding silently in the deepening darkness. At that moment, Qin Reng refocused his attention on the steering wheel. Just then, his phone beeped, breaking the brief silence.
He glanced at the screen; it was a message notification. He quickly swiped to open it, but held his breath for a moment. Yu Yuetong noticed his change and couldn't help but glance at it as well.
A blurry image flickered on the screen, sending chills down her spine. She immediately realized it was a voice message for Qin Reng.
"If you think you can keep your life a secret, you're being naive. This game has only just begun..."
Mo Qingcheng's voice carried a hint of morbid pleasure, sounding like some kind of chilling maxim, striking Qin Reng's palm from the other side of the screen and making his whole body tense.
Yu Yuetong looked up at Qin Reng and was shocked to see the anger and coldness flash across his face. She wanted to say something to ease the tension, but she was still overwhelmed by unease.
“He can’t stay in the capital for long, he won’t stay for long.” Qin Reng almost chewed on the words, uttering them slowly and deliberately, as if making some kind of reluctant assurance to himself.
Silence returned to the car, but an invisible pressure and hostility still lingered in the cabin, like a fuse ready to explode at any moment.
A few streetlights suddenly trembled and swayed in the wind, casting dancing shadows. At that moment, Yu Yuetong felt as if she and Qin Reng were isolated from the city's hustle and bustle and its silence, and placed in a winter that belonged only to the two of them.
"By the way," Yu Yuetong forced a faint smile, rubbed her eyes hard, and tried to relax her tense shoulders, "This car is driving smoothly, Mr. President, how about considering driving a taxi part-time?"
Qin Reng smiled at her, feeling a little relieved: "Let's see if we have enough energy." He casually placed his right hand over her, his palm touching her fingers, and neither of them pulled away.
Everything seemed peaceful along the way, but deep down we all knew that the real storm was just beginning.
