Chapter 430 Lively
Chapter 430 Lively
Under the moonlight, the herd of wild boars drew closer and closer.
The leader was a huge boar, whose tusks gleamed coldly in the moonlight, making it look exceptionally fierce.
It walked up to the fence, stopped warily, and kept sniffing.
Up in the tree, Li Xiangyang and Li Daqiang held their breath, not daring to even blink.
Although I have full confidence in the trap, whether it will actually work or not can only be determined by witnessing it firsthand.
At this tense moment, the boar suddenly turned around, as if to lead the herd away.
Li Daqiang panicked and subconsciously shifted his body, causing the tree branch to make a slight "crack" sound.
The boar immediately raised its head alertly, its eyes scanning its surroundings intently.
Li Xiangyang inwardly groaned, but outwardly remained calm. He pressed down on Li Daqiang's hand, signaling him not to move.
After about half a minute, the wild boar seemed to relax its guard and began to move along the fence again, looking for a path into the wheat field.
They quickly discovered a gap in the fence, and the lead boar cautiously probed forward, with the rest of the herd following closely behind.
"Now..." Li Xiangyang silently recited in his heart.
The lead wild boar stepped into a trap covered with branches and grass. Suddenly, with a "crack," the branches snapped, and the earth seemed to crack open beneath the boar's feet.
The wild boar let out a terrified scream, and its entire body disappeared into the cave in an instant.
The piglets that followed were caught off guard and also fell into the trap.
The screams and struggles of wild boars echoed from the trap, deafeningly loud.
"It's done!" Li Daqiang shouted excitedly, almost falling off the tree.
Li Xiangyang grabbed him, saying, "Don't rush, there are still a few that haven't gone in yet."
Sure enough, the remaining wild boars heard their companions' cries and turned to run away.
Li Xiangyang quickly raised his hunting rifle, aimed at a large wild boar, and pulled the trigger.
A loud "bang!" echoed through the night sky.
The wild boar fell to the ground with a thud, but it was not completely dead; it struggled to get up.
Li Xiangyang aimed again, and his second shot accurately hit the prey's vital point.
The wild boar twitched a few times and then became completely still.
At this moment, gunshots and shouts also came from the other two traps, indicating that Wang Ergou and his men had also made some gains.
Li Xiangyang and Li Daqiang quickly climbed down from the tree and carefully approached the trap.
Inside the trap, the trapped wild boars frantically rammed against the walls, trying to climb out, but the two-meter-deep pit left them helpless.
One of the smaller wild boars, out of fear, kept running around in the pit and accidentally bumped into a sharp wooden stake, letting out a shrill howl.
"Great, we caught four at once!" Li Daqiang said excitedly.
Li Xiangyang nodded: "Don't get too excited yet, we need to figure out a way to get them up here."
At this moment, Wang Ergou and Zhang Weiping also arrived, their faces beaming with the joy of victory.
"Xiangyang! We've caught two more over there!" Wang Ergou exclaimed excitedly. "This trap is incredibly effective!"
The four of them came to the edge of the trap and discussed how to deal with the prey.
“We have to kill them first,” Li Xiangyang said, “and then pull them up with ropes.”
The wild boar trapped inside continued to howl and charge, the noise so loud that it could probably be heard throughout the entire village.
Li Xiangyang picked up his hunting rifle and aimed at the largest wild boar in the trap.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out, and the wild boar fell to the ground.
The other wild boars were so frightened that they ran around wildly in the pit.
Li Xiangyang killed them one by one until the trap was completely quiet.
“Guys,” Li Xiangyang said, turning to the crowd, “go back to the village and get some men to help. Bring ropes and flashlights. We need to get this game back.”
Li Daqiang immediately turned around and ran back to the village.
Soon, the men from the village arrived, bringing ropes, flashlights, and stretchers.
Under Li Xiangyang's command, the villagers carefully hoisted the wild boars out of the traps and then carried them back to the village on stretchers.
When Li Xiangyang got home, it was already past midnight.
Hearing the noise, Li Xiaoyun groggily sat up in bed: "You're back?"
Li Xiangyang said softly, "Hmm, quite a haul. You go back to sleep, I'll wash up and come right away."
Li Xiaoyun smiled and lay back down.
When Li Xiaoyun groggily opened her eyes again in the early morning, it was already dawn.
Looking at the empty space beside her, she got dressed and went to the kitchen, where she saw that Li Xiangyang had already started the fire and was cooking porridge.
"Awake?" Li Xiangyang turned around and glanced at him, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Sleep a little longer, the porridge still needs to cook."
Li Xiaoyun shook her head, picked up a small stool and sat down: "Can't sleep? How was last night?"
Li Xiangyang scooped up a spoonful of porridge, tasted it, and nodded in satisfaction: "It was quite successful. We caught ten wild boars, yielding over a thousand catties of meat."
"So many?" Li Xiaoyun's eyes widened in surprise. "That's a huge harvest!"
Li Xiangyang smiled and continued adding firewood: "Yes, the village is very lively right now; everyone's waiting to get their share of the meat."
“That’s definitely something to be happy about.” Li Xiaoyun rubbed her eyes and smiled like a child.
Seeing her smile so happily, Li Xiangyang felt a warmth in his heart: "I'll serve the porridge in a bit. You stay home and rest; I'll go help divide the pork."
Li Xiaoyun shook her head and insisted, "I'll go take a look too. I've been cooped up all winter and want to get some fresh air."
Li Xiangyang knew he couldn't refuse her, so he had no choice but to agree: "Okay, but don't tire yourself out. Let's just go take a look, we won't do anything."
After breakfast, Li Xiangyang helped Li Xiaoyun to the open space in the center of the village.
The villagers had already gathered there, and several large wild boars were hanging on a makeshift frame, being slaughtered and butchered.
Team leader Zheng Dehou stood in the middle, directing the distribution of meat: "Distribute it equally among the able-bodied, with families having more pregnant women, the elderly, and children."
Upon seeing Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun arrive, the villagers gathered around, expressing their gratitude in a cacophony of voices.
"Xiangyang, thanks to you this time, our village was able to eat so much meat!"
"Yes, yes, this trap is absolutely brilliant!"
"Xiangyang, you've truly surpassed your father! Your hunting skills are even better than his back then!"
Li Xiangyang was a little embarrassed by the praise and waved his hands repeatedly, saying, "It was the result of everyone's hard work; I just offered an idea."
Just then, Wang Ergou ran over excitedly: "Brother Xiangyang, good news! I just checked the traps, and two more wild boars have fallen in!"
"Really?" Li Xiangyang was somewhat surprised. "They're here again so soon?"
Wang Ergou nodded, his face beaming with excitement: "That's right! I've already asked Li Daqiang and the others to handle it. This pig is a bit smaller, but it still weighs three or four hundred jin!"
Captain Zheng Dehou walked over and patted Li Xiangyang on the shoulder: "Xiangyang, this trap is really effective. It seems our wheat seedlings have been saved this year."
Li Xiangyang nodded: "Captain, I suggest we set up more traps, especially along the paths the wild boars are sure to take. There are a lot of wild boars this year; these few traps alone probably won't be enough."
Zheng Dehou pondered for a moment, then made the decision: "That's what we'll do! Divide up the pork today, and tomorrow the whole village will mobilize to set up several more traps!"
The villagers responded enthusiastically, and the scene became lively and bustling.
