Chapter 293 That’s pretty much it
Li Xiangyang took a slight step back, but his eyes remained fixed on the ground, afraid that Li Xiaoyun might accidentally step on a stone or a pothole.
"Brother Xiangyang, you're being too cautious," Wang Ergou couldn't help but tease. "Your wife is only a little over a month pregnant; she's not made of porcelain, she doesn't need to be so delicate."
Ma Hongxia gently patted Wang Ergou's arm: "Stop making fun of him. Brother Li is just worried and confused; you would have done the same."
“Exactly.” Li Xiangyang glared at Wang Ergou. “This is the first child; we can’t be careless.”
A blush crept onto Li Xiaoyun's face as she said softly, "I already said it's not certain yet, so please stop making a fuss."
Ma Hongxia smiled and leaned closer to Li Xiaoyun, whispering, "Sister Xiaoyun, how are you feeling right now? I've seen many pregnant women at the clinic, and their initial reactions vary; some are particularly uncomfortable."
"I'm okay, just a little nauseous and my appetite isn't great," Li Xiaoyun replied quietly. "But I'm not sure if I'm really pregnant."
After walking for about fifteen minutes, a lotus pond came into view.
In the height of summer, lotus leaves cover the water's surface, dotted with pink lotus blossoms, and a refreshing fragrance wafts on the breeze.
"Wow! It's so beautiful!" Li Xiaohua exclaimed, and Wang Ying's eyes widened with delight.
Li Xiangyang quickly found a shady spot under a tree, spread out the cloth he had brought, placed a small stool there, and said to Li Xiaoyun, "Sit here and rest, don't get sunburned."
Li Xiaoyun shook her head helplessly, but still obediently sat down: "You're making it seem like I'm someone who really needs special treatment."
“That’s true,” Li Xiangyang said seriously. “Now that you’re eating for two, you naturally need to be extra careful.”
Ma Hongxia laughed and replied, "Brother Li is right, you need to pay more attention to rest in the early stages, otherwise problems can easily arise. I really envy you guys, Er Gou and I have also worked quite hard, but..."
Hearing this, Wang Ergou quickly chuckled and said, "Well, I think the scenery over there is better. Let's go, honey, let's take the kids over to see."
After saying that, he took Ma Hongxia's hand and led the two girls toward the lotus pond.
Li Xiangyang sat next to Li Xiaoyun, gazing at the lotus pond in a daze.
After a while, he said softly, "Xiaoyun, have you decided what name to give the baby?"
Li Xiaoyun chuckled, "Isn't this a bit too early? We're not even sure yet, and you've already thought of a name?"
“It’s good to prepare early,” Li Xiangyang said with a smile. “I’ve thought of a few names. How about Li Mingyang for the boy? And Li Mingyue for the girl?”
"Yes, they all sound nice," Li Xiaoyun nodded and leaned gently on Li Xiangyang's shoulder.
In the distance, Ma Hongxia and two little girls were squatting by the lotus pond, with Wang Ergou standing beside them, protecting them.
Li Xiaohua suddenly exclaimed, "Brother, Sister Xiaoyun, come quick! There are little fish here!"
Li Xiangyang quickly stood up, but then looked at Li Xiaoyun with concern: "Do you want to go see it? It's okay if you don't; I'll describe it to you."
Li Xiaoyun was both amused and exasperated. She patted his arm and said, "Go on, go on, I can walk by myself. Besides, Ma Hongxia is already squatting by the water, why can't I go?"
The two arrived at the lotus pond and, sure enough, saw several small fish swimming in the clear water, darting under the lotus leaves.
Just as the group was engrossed in watching, Li Guihua arrived with Xiao Lan.
"I heard the lotus flowers were blooming beautifully, so I came to see them," Li Guihua said with a smile. "Xiao Lan has been talking about them for days."
As soon as Xiaolan saw Wang Ying and Li Xiaohua, she happily ran over and joined their group.
Soon, the three little girls gathered together, observing the small fish and algae in the lotus pond.
Li Guihua looked at Li Xiaoyun, a knowing look in her eyes: "Xiaoyun, you look great. Are you pregnant?"
Li Xiaoyun blushed and shook her head: "Big sister, it's not certain yet, don't guess."
"I'm pretty sure it's true," Li Guihua said with a smile. "Your complexion is exactly the same as when I was pregnant with Xiaolan."
Li Xiangyang quickly leaned closer and asked anxiously, "Big sister, what did you feel when you were pregnant with Xiaolan? Was there anything you needed to be careful about?"
Li Guihua was amused by Li Xiangyang's nervousness: "You're just too nervous. Pregnancy is a very normal thing. Rural women don't have so many rules. They still go to work in the fields and do what they always do."
"That won't do!" Li Xiangyang shook his head repeatedly. "This is no joke. What if something goes wrong..."
Li Xiaoyun interrupted him helplessly: "Look at him, ever since he found out about this last night, he's been like this. He won't let me do anything, and I need to be supported to walk. It's like I'm seriously ill."
Everyone laughed when they heard this.
After admiring the lotus flowers, everyone prepared to return to the village.
Li Xiangyang stayed close to Li Xiaoyun, afraid that she might accidentally fall.
"Honestly," Li Xiaoyun complained softly, "you're making me feel uncomfortable walking."
Li Xiangyang disagreed: "It's always better to be careful."
Back home, Li Xiangyang immediately told Li Xiaoyun to sit down and rest, while he busied himself with tasks such as boiling water, cooking, and cleaning the yard.
“Li Xiangyang, I’ve told you so many times, I’m not that delicate. It’s okay for me to do some normal work,” Li Xiaoyun couldn’t help but say.
Li Xiangyang insisted, "No, what if something goes wrong? You just rest and relax, I'll do the housework."
"So you plan to keep doing this until the baby is born?" Li Xiaoyun asked, somewhat amused and exasperated. "That's still more than half a year away, won't you be exhausted?"
Li Xiangyang patted his chest: "It's alright, I'm willing to work any way I want for you and the baby."
After dinner, Li Xiaoyun, as usual, went to cool off in the courtyard.
A gentle breeze blew by on a summer night, bringing a touch of coolness.
"Xiangyang," Li Xiaoyun suddenly spoke up, "Summer vacation still has a month to go, you can't be spending all your time around me."
Li Xiangyang scratched his head: "I'm just worried..."
“I know you’re worried,” Li Xiaoyun interrupted him, “but this only makes me uncomfortable. Instead of watching over me all day, you should go do something yourself. Like, go hunting in the mountains.”
Li Xiangyang was startled: "Hunting? That's too dangerous! Besides, you're pregnant now, you need someone with you..."
"Here we go again. I used to tell you not to go because I was worried about your safety, but when have you ever listened to me?" Li Xiaoyun said with a helpless smile. "Alright, Xiaohua and Xiaoying are at home. They'll find someone to help if anything happens."
Li Xiangyang still hesitated: "But..."
“There’s no ‘buts’,” Li Xiaoyun said firmly. “I can see you’ve been feeling really stifled these past few days, you might as well go to the mountains for some fresh air. To be honest, having you hanging around me like this is really an eyesore.”
Li Xiangyang thought for a moment and reluctantly agreed: "Alright then, but I'll just wander around the neighborhood."
Li Xiaoyun smiled and nodded: "That's more like it. I know you mean well, but going too far is counterproductive."
