Chapter 275 An Encounter with White Scar
Chapter 275 An Encounter with White Scar
The tremors in the jungle grew closer, and ripples spread across the puddles on the ground. Russell gripped the Blooddrinker entrenching tool, golden psionic energy shimmering on its blade.
Arya stood beside him, a barrier formed around her by a psychic aura.
Suddenly, a group of mutated swamp people burst out of the jungle. Their skin was a sickly green, covered in scales and pustules. They rode enormous lizards, whose eyes gleamed with ferocity and whose fangs were as sharp as blades.
"Kill!" the swamp chieftain screamed, his bone spear aimed directly at Russell and Arya.
A murderous glint flashed in Russell's eyes. He leaped up, wielding the Bloodthirsty shovel, golden psionic energy shimmering on its blade. His figure moved like lightning, hurtling straight at the Swamp Man.
Arya swiftly launched a psionic attack, beams of psionic energy shooting towards the swamp man like arrows. She waved her hands, creating psionic barriers in the air that blocked all the enemy's attacks.
The battle erupted instantly. Russell weaved through the swamp dwellers, the tip of his Bloodthirsty entrenching tool piercing their bodies, golden psionic energy raging within them. Arya's psionic attacks were precise and deadly, each swing claiming an enemy's life.
"Russell! Watch out!" Arya's voice was tinged with anxiety. A huge lizard suddenly pounced on Russell, its fangs as sharp as blades.
Russell swiftly dodged to the side, the tip of his entrenching tool piercing the lizard's abdomen. The lizard roared in pain, its body beginning to crumble under the corrosive influence of the golden psionic energy. Russell leaped up and mounted the lizard's back.
“Arya! Come up here!” Russell’s voice was deep and powerful.
Arya swiftly leaped onto the lizard's back, gripping Russell's shoulders tightly. Russell rode the lizard straight towards the swamp people's camp.
The lizard's fangs were as sharp as blades, each bite claiming an enemy's life. Russell wielded his Bloodthirsty entrenching tool, golden psionic energy shimmering on its blade. Arya's psionic attacks were precise and deadly, each swing claiming an enemy's life.
The swamp people's ranks began to crumble, their leader letting out a piercing scream as he tried to organize a counterattack. But Russell and Arya's offensive was like a storm, impossible to withstand.
"Retreat!" The swamp people's leader gave the final order, leading his remaining men in a swift escape.
Russell rode his lizard to a stop at the edge of the jungle. His gaze was cold and fixed on the distant enemy. Arya stood beside him.
“We won…” Arya’s voice was tinged with exhaustion.
Russell nodded and said: This is only temporary; perhaps there will be even more brutal battles to come.
Russell and Arya rode swiftly through the jungle on their giant lizard, its scales shimmering metallically in the sunlight. Its six legs moved with effortless grace across the muddy ground, each leap covering tens of meters. Arya's psionic barrier shielded them from the onrushing vines and poisonous insects, but her face grew increasingly pale—maintaining this level of psionic energy consumption was no easy feat for her.
“There’s something ahead.” Russell suddenly reined in the lizard, his golden pupils standing out starkly in the shadows. Through the dense canopy, a crashed Thunderhawk gunboat could be seen perched diagonally on the ground, the White Scars Chapter insignia clearly visible on its wing.
Arya jumped off the lizard, her psionic vision allowing her to see more details: "The crash occurred no more than three months ago, and judging from the marks, it was shot down by anti-aircraft fire." She pointed to the bullet holes at the stern of the gunboat, "With this level of damage, the pilot is very likely still alive."
Russell examined the surrounding evidence: "There are signs of a battle." He pointed to the shell craters and scorch marks left by energy weapons on the ground. "The White Scars wouldn't abandon their vehicles so easily; they must have established a temporary base nearby."
Just then, the lizard suddenly let out an uneasy growl. Russell swiftly raised the Fire Kirin and aimed it at the bushes on his right. A giant clad in white power armor emerged, his helmet bearing a noticeable crack, and his shoulder armor adorned with lightning bolt emblems.
“I am Togtai, a scout from the White Scar Regiment.” His voice came through a voice changer. “Who are you, and why are you here?”
Russell lowered his weapon, revealing the Grey Knight badge on his chest: "I am Russell, and this is the psionicist Arya. Our merchant ship crashed here during a warp storm."
Togtai's helmet display flashed a data stream: "Grey Knight Badge... Verification successful." He gestured, and more White Scar warriors emerged from the shadows. "Follow me. The company commander must be eager to see you."
On the way to the temporary base, Togtai explained the situation: “We were shot down three months ago during a reconnaissance mission. This planet has been infiltrated by Chaos forces, and its rulers have fallen. We have been waiting for reinforcements while also assisting the local resistance.”
Russell noticed the fortifications and concealed outposts along the way; the White Scars' efficiency was astonishing. When they reached the base, a massive underground cavern came into view, containing Thunderhawk gunships under repair and various heavy equipment.
“With your help,” Togtai said, “we might be able to turn the tide.”
