Chapter 60 You dare to play me? Believe me, I'll kill you!
"You're welcome." Cheng Ai waved her hand, took two steps back, and stretched out her hand to Hao Jian. "Let me see the camera."
Seeing the other person's eyes darting around, she pointed to his bulging pocket and said sarcastically, "Don't say you didn't bring it, or I might lose control and hit you."
Hao Jian's expression changed slightly, and he quickly took out his camera and handed it to her.
Cheng Ai took the photo, fiddled with it for a few moments, then shoved it into Zhong Zheyi's arms, frowning as she asked, "I remember the back of the photo taken at noon was blank. Does it have a function to display the time the photo was taken?"
Zhong Zheyi opened the settings and looked at them, then shook his head, "No."
Cheng Ai sighed, gently rubbing her temples, but her gaze was suddenly drawn to the smart bracelet on her wrist.
He then slapped his forehead, muttering in annoyance, "How stupid of me, I completely forgot about that!"
She raised her hand and solemnly commanded, "The bracelet has a timing function. After Master Wu makes his move, Feifei will keep an eye on the top of the cave, Zhong Zheyi will observe the bottom, and Hao Jian and Cheng Baoni will be responsible for the left and right sides respectively."
She paused for a few seconds, then added forcefully, "Feifei once mentioned the word 'pattern,' so you need to remember the duration of each laser line change so that I can summarize and determine the safe route."
Song Yifei, Hao Jian, and Zhong Zheyi readily agreed, while Cheng Baoni pouted, looking displeased. "The five of us have our own roles, and you're just standing around doing nothing. Is that appropriate?"
Cheng Ai produced an ordinary rope, tied one end to Wu Xu's waist, and held the other end in her palm. "If Master Wu has an accident, I can pull him back in time and reduce the loss of points."
Cheng Baoni frowned unhappily. "Then let's just not let him in. I'm careless and can't complete the task you assigned me."
Cheng Ai wasn't annoyed. Instead, she explained with a smile, "I want to know if the frequency of the laser beam changes is affected by human interference, so Master Wu has to make a trip."
She spoke slowly, but with a very authoritative tone: “This isn’t a question of whether you can do it, it’s a question of whether you absolutely have to do it well! It’s only the second day, you have plenty of time to adjust.”
Cheng Baoni wanted to argue, but Hao Jian stopped her by pulling her sleeve, so she didn't say anything more.
Seeing this, Cheng Ai smiled with satisfaction, "If no one has any objections, let's get ready to begin."
Wu Xu took a deep breath, silently moved to the far right of the cave, and slowly moved forward, close to the stone wall.
The others stared intently, and the moment the laser beam disappeared and the sequence changed and the beam lit up again, they quickly noted the time displayed on their wristbands and immediately looked up to continue monitoring. Cheng Ai, meanwhile, kept snapping photos with her camera.
Things were progressing smoothly, and Wu Xu was extremely careful with every step he took.
He used ropes to secure his body, sometimes lifting his feet off the ground, sometimes turning and circling, moving forward cautiously.
Unfortunately, Wu Xu was old and lacked energy. Before long, he was panting and sweating profusely.
Just then, the laser beams switched positions, causing him to lose his footing and plummet straight down.
While taking photos, Cheng Ai grabbed the rope and pulled him back to the entrance.
Wu Xu was penalized 8 points and was panting heavily. He leaned against the stone wall to rest.
The guests were not disturbed and continued to stare intently ahead.
After about three hours, Cheng Ai laid all the photos flat on the ground and marked the data calculated by Song Yifei and others next to them with small stones.
The results were somewhat complex: the laser lines in the upper and lower parts alternated every half hour, forty minutes on the left and one hour on the right. As for the central area, the frequency of change was consistent whether from the inside to the outside or from the outside to the inside, changing every ten minutes, and there were eight different patterns.
The six of them started discussing amongst themselves, their brows furrowed in deep thought, but they still couldn't find a breakthrough.
Cheng Ai listened quietly, occasionally interjecting a few words. Suddenly, she pointed to a certain photo, frowned, and asked, "Who compiled these two figures? Something doesn't seem right."
Hao Jian was very confident in himself and answered without hesitation, "I kept a close eye on it the whole time, there's no way I could be wrong!"
Cheng Baoni hesitated for a moment, but out of pride, she still insisted, "The laser line changes three times in three hours, which averages out to once per hour. Where is the mistake?"
Cheng Ai looked puzzled and murmured, "That's strange. If the intervals between the changes on the left and right sides are not consistent, it should be unbalanced, but the footage captured is perfectly accurate..."
Cheng Baoni's eyes flickered slightly, and she said, feigning composure, "The world is full of wonders, what do you know?"
Cheng Ai thought it made some sense, so she gave up the investigation and decided to take the risk and try it out herself.
She retrieved the rope with the knife from Wu Xu's hand and walked into the laser beam at the right moment.
Before long, the petite figure and the blue glowing origami crane disappeared into the darkness.
Song Yifei withdrew her gaze, clasped her hands together in prayer, "I hope Sister Xiao Ai can reach the finish line safely, please, please..."
Wu Xu leaned against the stone wall to rest, while Zhong Zheyi picked up a few photos, staring into deep thought, seemingly pondering something.
Cheng Baoni leaned against her boyfriend, seemingly relaxed, but actually tense, her eyes fixed on the depths of the cave, her heart pounding.
Although her origami cranes were gone, Hao Jian's remained, emitting a blue light that illuminated the surroundings.
Seeing Cheng Baoni's anxious expression, Song Yifei couldn't help but sarcastically ask, "You didn't suddenly change your mind and start worrying about Sister Xiao Ai, did you?"
"Nonsense!" Cheng Baoni gave her a cold glare, then turned her head away and ignored her.
She genuinely didn't have those intentions; she was simply afraid of being beaten.
Song Yifei gave a disdainful snort, too lazy to waste her breath, and continued to pay attention to the situation ahead.
Just as everyone was dozing off, an electronic voice came over the loudspeaker:
Immediately afterwards, a rope tightly wrapped around Zhong Zheyi's waist, and a strong force suddenly struck him. He grabbed a protruding rock beside him to avoid falling.
Song Yifei's eyes widened, looking completely bewildered. "W-what's wrong?"
Before she could finish speaking, she saw Cheng Ai angrily pounce on her, punching Cheng Baoni hard. "Damn it, you dare to play me? Believe me or not, I'll kill you!"
The sudden scene stunned everyone. Hao Jian quickly separated the two and said anxiously, "Let's talk this out."
Cheng Ai wanted to hit him again, but Zhong Zheyi stopped her, saying, "Sister Ai, calm down, don't do it!"
Cheng Baoni covered her swollen cheek, crying and wailing in pain, "Waaah... I didn't do anything... Why did you hit me, waaaah..."
Cheng Ai's chest heaved violently with anger, wishing she could tear her face apart. "Because the values you provided were wrong, we wasted three hours of our time, and you still have the nerve to play the victim?"
Cheng Baoni sobbed, then shouted back defiantly, "You're so annoying with all your whining! If you're so capable, time it yourself, don't use me!"
Hao Jian frowned deeply, pulled her aside, and asked in a low voice, "Did you really misreport the time?"
